Job purpose 

The Lift Maintenance Mechanic – Electrician position performs routine, emergency, and preventive maintenance as well as troubleshooting on a variety of electrical, electro-mechanical, industrial control, and commercial equipment including control systems, low and high voltage circuitry, motors and drives, as well as other non-electrical mechanical maintenance. This position also assists maintenance and mountain personnel with other maintenance and capital projects. This position involves year-round full time outdoor work in a mountain environment in all seasons and weather conditions that includes climbing and working at height on ski lift towers and operating snowmobiles.


Duties and responsibilities 

  • Performs routine and preventive maintenance on all ski lifts systems and components.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs lift-related components, including safety circuitry, AC and DC motors, Industrial Controls including relay logic, PLC, VFD, and other Drive systems and circuitry, as well as mechanical systems.
  • Performs daily, weekly, monthly, and annual checks of lifts to ensure that all lifts are running smoothly and properly; performs maintenance tasks if/when necessary.
  • Performs line work during summer off-season checking all componentry for issues, replacing/repairing as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with ANSI-B77 & CPTSB maintenance, safety, and electrical standards
  • Anticipates potential problems with lifts based on analysis of internal systems and external events (weather, crowd, etc.) and collaborates with other Mountain Ops and Maintenance team members to solve issues.
  • May help other departments with electrical issues/needs.
  • Any other tasks as assigned.



  • Must be 21+ with a current and valid Driver’s License.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2-year electrical degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • 3+ years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of aerial tramways/ropeways, surface lifts, and electrical/electronics, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledgeable in all equipment used to meet lift maintenance and electrical goals, including basic and specialized tools, electrical diagnostic equipment, rigging, etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of ANSI-B77, OSHA standards, Colorado Ski Safety Act, and CPTSB.
  • Working knowledge of AC & DC motors and controls, 12v, 24v, single phase 120v & 240v, and 3-phase 480v control systems and power
  • Proficiency reading and applying electrical schematics, including both Doppelmayr and Poma prints.
  • Ability to multi-task, potentially under pressure, solo and in a team environment.
  • Excellent troubleshooting/problem-solving skills.
  • A professional, positive, and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Ability to ski or snowboard at an advanced level – preferred.
  • Equipment operating experience (snowcat, loader, excavator, plow truck, etc.) – preferred.


Working conditions 

This position is based primarily outside and is exposed to temperature extremes (above 85 degrees and below 20 degrees), sun and wind exposure, inclement weather (rain, snow, ice), and high altitudes (10,500+ feet).  Must be able to operate snowmobiles, ATVs, snowcats, and other heavy equipment.


Physical requirements 

Must be able to walk on even/uneven/slippery terrain, climb/descend even/uneven/slippery terrain, climb/descend stairs and ladders, stand and/or sit for long periods of time, bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, lift objects which may be heavy, etc.
